Message from the President:

Morehouse Brothers,

This is a great time to get Slim TS active with your alumni association. Recently, I visited our “Dear Old Morehouse” where I picked up the latest Morehouse Magazine (Summer ’07), affiliate marketing which you should all get in the mail shortly. Thanks to Brother Victor Chambers II- in his article entitled “Northern New Jersey Chapter Holds Inaugural Scholarship to Leadership Gala” on page 52, we have a half page article.

The Scholarship to Leadership Gala, was a great success due largely to your participation Atlanta bankruptcy attorney and enthusiasm. This year we are trying to do much more. We have already started the process and look forward to seeing more Morehouse Men this year!

This year I am happy to announce that the regional conference, which is being Suzanne Somers diet lead by our Regional VP, Nashon Hornsby, is expected to be held here in NJ in April.

With the current state of Black America, it is definitely a prime time for Morehouse Men Right to Bare Legs to step up to the plate to help pave a path for the next generation to follow.

Sincerely,

Nine films are nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards this year, begging the question: who deserved a tenth spot on that list? “Oscars 2012: 10 Spot” answers that question, as the MTV Movies team highlights some of 2011′s greatest films and argues why they deserved a nod as the tenth Best Picture nominee.

Front and center at the 2012 Oscars is a heartbreaking film ? one nominated in five categories, including Best Picture and Best Actor ? about a family reeling from the tragic loss of its matriarch. The father is at a loss as to how to pull his children ? the elder acting up, the younger not quite mature enough to grasp the enormity of unfolding events ? up from the depths of grief and move them toward something resembling a new normal. The patriarch’s eventual solution? A wild adventure. The result? A family learning, at times happily and at times with tears, to be whole again.

I’m talking, of course, about “The Descendants.” Here’s the thing: there was a second film this past year that followed a largely similar story arc (far more successfully, which is to say far more gut-wrenchingly and believably) and yet it hasn’t factored at all into awards-season chatter. The film in question is “We Bought a Zoo,” and it absolutely deserves a Best Picture nomination.

Co-writer/director Cameron Crowe pulls off the impressive trick of spinning what could have easily devolved into a maudlin cryfest into an affecting film about loss and trial-and-error recovery. Matt Damon plays Benjamin Mee, a man who recently lost his wife to cancer. His son has just been expelled from school, and if it weren’t for the help of his precocious 7-year-old daughter, he might not be able to get his kids dressed and their lunches packed each morning. Things are not going well. A change is needed. And so, just like the true story on which the film is based, Benjamin hauls his family away from town and into a new house ? one that just so happens to be planted in a deteriorating zoo.

Listen, I can tick off all the ways this movie is one of my favorites of the year. Damon gives perhaps his most mature, fully developed performance to date. The supporting cast is richly drawn and there are a whole lot of laughs throughout. The soundtrack, like all those in Crowe’s films, rules. What I’ve really been thinking about recently, though, is why “Zoo” didn’t pop this awards-season while “Descendants,” which struck me as phony and featuring a loathsome egomaniac of a main character (albeit one portrayed ably by George Clooney), has become an Oscar sweetheart.

Do the old white guys who comprise the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences not like Crowe? Well, they have nominated him three times in the past, and he won once for his “Almost Famous” screenplay. Do voters believe movies featuring a colorful cast of animals are just a little too Disney? Do they have a selective aversion to earnest films, favoring something unbearably schmaltzy (Best Picture nominee “Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close”) over the sweetness and realness and movie magic-tinged verve of “Zoo”?

Silly questions, all. There’s ultimately no parsing the behind-the-scenes scheming and in-front-of-the-buffet-table glad-handing that separates an Oscar darling from an Oscar never-was. So screw it. I’ll just look forward to the arrival of “We Bought a Zoo” on DVD in April.

Michael Fassbender continues his domination of Hollywood by landing a role in Ridley Scott’s upcoming Cormac McCarthy movie. Meanwhile, Paul Walker is set to star in a new Universal thriller, Kathryn Bigelow’s Osama Bin Laden project gets two new cast members and Nick Offerman gets a part in Diablo Cody’s “Lamb of God.”

It’s February 22, and you’re tuning in for today’s casting call.

Michael Fassbender Confirmed For New Ridley Scott Film
It’s no shame that Michael Fassbender has been getting as many new roles as he has been recently. Deadline is reporting that the latest is the Ridley Scott-directed and Cormac McCarthy-written “The Counselor.” Fassbender will play a respected lawyer trying to dabble in the drug trade, but gets sucked down into it similar to “Breaking Bad.”

Paul Walker To Star In “Skyscraper”
Universal Pictures can confirm that Paul Walker will star in the studio’s upcoming action-thriller “Skyscraper.” Based on an original idea by Mike Sobel, Walker will also produce the flick. Up next, though, he is starring in “Fast & Furious 6″ and “Hours.”

Two More Head To Hunt Bin Laden
The cast of Kathryn Bigelow’s untitled Osama Bin Laden drama continues to grow bigger and bigger. Entertainment Weekly reports that two new stars have joined the project. Jennifer Ehle will play a member of the team tasked with targeting Bin Laden, while Nash Edgerton (brother to Joel Edgerton, who is also signed on to the flick) will play a Navy SEAL.

Antje Traue Joins “The Seventh Son”
“Man of Steel” leading lady Antje Traue is the latest star to join the cast of the upcoming Legendary Pictures project “The Seventh Son,” Variety reports. The flick also stars Jeff Bridges, Ben Barnes, Julianne Moore, Kit Harington and Alicia Vikander. Sergei Bodrov directs the project off a script by Matt Greenberg and Chuck Leavitt.

Nick Offerman Heads To Diablo Cody’s “Lamb Of God”
Diablo Cody’s upcoming directorial debut “Lamb of God” just got a big dose of funny. Deadline is reporting that “Parks and Recreation” star Nick Offerman has joined the cast, which also includes Octavia Spencer, Holly Hunter, Russell Brand and Julianne Hough. The flick follows an evangelical woman who denounces God and heads to Las Vegas to attempt to rediscover herself.

Martin Freeman To Star In “Svengali”
Variety has learned that Martin Freeman is set to star in the big screen adaptation of hit YouTube series “Svengali.” Directed by first-timer John Hardwick, it will start production in London next week. “Svengali” follows a small town Welsh man who heads to London to fulfill his dream of becoming a manager for the best band in the world.

In Casting Call, the MTV Movies team rounds up the day’s biggest casting news and offers it up to you on a silver platter. If you’re looking to see which movie your favorite actor has booked next, look no further. Tell us what you think in the comments section and on Twitter!

Lady Gaga is amping up her fans for the Born This Way Ball, set to kick off later this year. On Tuesday, she dropped a sketch of her gothic castle-themed stage design, and in the very early hours of Wednesday morning (February 8), she teased fans with a poster for the trek.

The black-and-white poster, which includes touches of neon purple and turquoise, features an omniscient image of Gaga, decked out in her full “BTW” horned look, looking down from the sky. Underneath, in a castle that looks an awful lot like the one from the tour sketch, Gaga, wearing a piano dress, hangs with a group of suit-wearing dudes. And, for those paying close enough attention, Zombie Boy even makes an appearance, peeking out from one of the castle windows.

In her long-simmering latest “Yoü and I” fashion film, Gaga portrays her male alter ego, Jo Calderone. Jo smolders in the mini-film, smoking his way through it. Clips of Jo stripping (revealing Gaga’s taped-down chest) are intercut with shots of Gaga done up in an S&M-type outfit, dancing and tossing her long blond hair. The same outfit is worn by other dancers also featured in the clip, directed by Inez and Vinoodh.

Along with all these developments Little Monsters have to be excited about, this Sunday, Mother Monster is up for a number of Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album for Born This Way and Best Pop Solo Performance for “Yoü and I.”

Are you excited for Lady Gaga’s upcoming tour? Tell us below!

Chaos! Profanity! Wardrobe malfunctions! Don’t miss Sway and James Montgomery live from the Grammys red carpet this Sunday, February 12, for a full three hours of mayhem, starting at 5 p.m. ET on MTV.com. And the fun doesn’t end Sunday: MTV News has you covered until the Grammy hangover wears off!

With the release of “Skyfall” only eight and a half months away, Sam Mendes and his team have been playing awful coy with the promotion of the latest James Bond film. Tomorrow Mendes will release his first videoblog about the project (thank you Peter Jackson for keeping this trend popular) and that will likely be the first time fans get the chance to see any footage from the upcoming flick. And it certainly has taken long enough.

Until then, though, we fans will have to make do with the latest behind-the-scene photo from the “Skyfall” set. In it, Mendes can be seen looking over Dame Judi Dench’s shoulder as she analyzes something on her laptop. Well, at least it’s slightly more informative than Daniel Craig walking around in a suit!

So far, the coolest actual photo from “Skyfall” has featured Craig looking as Bond-like as he’s ever been. There was also an early leaked image showing Craig sitting by the edge of a swimming pool, but this other one of him stalking around with his gun raised is decidedly cooler.

It’s fitting that Dench be at the center of this new image, as agent M comes into the forefront as one of the major characters in “Skyfall.” The 23rd Bond film follows 007 as his loyalty to M is tested. MI6 comes under attack as M’s past comes back to haunt her, and it’s up to Bond to protect those close to him and the world.

“Skyfall” also stars Javier Bardem, Ralph Fiennes, Helen McCroy, Naomie Harris and Albert Finney. It’s slated to hit theaters on November 9.

It had to take something really special to get Andrew Stanton to make the jump from animated films to live action. The man best known for his work on “Wall-E,” “Finding Nemo” and “A Bug’s Life” makes his debut as a (mostly) live-action director with “John Carter,” out March 9. It’s a pretty big change from what fans are used to seeing from him, and that’s because “John Carter” has been something of a passion project for him.

Stanton recently sat down with MTV News to talk about the upcoming release of the movie. It’s been a project that has been floating around Hollywood for a while now, as Edgar Rice Burroughs’s “Barsoom” series has been the inspiration for many other science fiction projects — like “Star Wars” and “Flash Gordon” — and deserved to get the big screen treatment as well. Stanton said that he felt that we are finally at a point when Hollywood is capable of doing John Carter’s story justice, and that is why he pushed to get the movie made now.

“The only reason that I’m attached to this thing and it got on to the screen is because of the fandom,” Stanton explained. “It was not a career move, it was not a filmmaker choice. If it takes my influence with Disney from other things to convince them this is a property that needs to get on to the screen, then fine, I’ll use it.”

Earlier I wrote that the movie was “mostly” live-action because it’s actually very CGI-heavy. From the Mars setting with its alien inhabitants to the giant beasts seen in some of the promotion for the film, Stanton said he had to use every dollar of his reported $250 million budget. And, if he’s to be believed, it’s well worth it.

“I think once you see the film, you’ll realize how big of a budget it is, it’s all on that screen. It’s a fully realized world with tons of history, tons of cities and characters and cultural things, and fantastical ideas. And all of them are part of what makes it attractive in the books, in the 11 books, and there’s just nothing cheap about it,” Stanton said.

He added, “I just don’t think technology could even do what you want to have put on the screen for most of the time Hollywood’s been around, and it’s only recently that you could possibly fit the economics of it into a box.”

Are you looking forward to seeing “John Carter”? Are you a fan of the books like Stanton? Tell us in the comments section below or on Twitter!

Michael Fassbender is using his newfound fame to develop a film about an Irish legend close to his heart. Meanwhile, Rob Corddry joins Michael Bay’s “Pain and Gain,” Nonso Anozie will play “Ender’s Game” and Kyle Chandler is the latest to hunt Osama Bin Laden with Kathryn Bigelow.

It’s February 21, and this is today’s casting call.

Michael Fassbender Plans Movie About Cuchulainn
Despite his recent Oscar snub, Michael Fassbender is one of the biggest actors to blow up on the Hollywood scene this year. That’s likely why he’s taking advantage of that popularity to develop a project for himself. Variety is reporting that Fassbender and “Public Enemies” scribe Ronan Bennett are working on a movie about the Irish myth Cuchulainn.

Two More To Michael Bay’s “Pain And Gain”?
Variety has the news that funnyman Rob Corddry is the latest actor to join Michael Bay’s next project, “Pain and Gain.” He’ll be joining Mark Wahlberg, Dwayne Johnson and Ed Harris in the film. Corddry will play John Mese, a former competitive body builder who is Wahlberg’s boss at a gym. Meanwhile, Latino Review is reporting that John Turturro is also in talks to join the flick.

Nonso Anozie Plays “Ender’s Game”
Three more stars have joined the cast of “Ender’s Game.” Deadline is reporting that “The Grey” star Nonso Anozie will play Sergeant Dap. In addition, Stevie Ray Dallimore will play Ender’s father and Andrea Powell will play his mother. The film is set to hit theaters on March 15, 2013.

Kyle Chandler Will Hunt Bin Laden
“Friday Night Lights” star Kyle Chandler is the latest actor to join Kathryn Bigelow’s untitled movie about the hunt to find Osama Bin Laden. Deadline reports that he joins a cast that also includes Jessica Chastain, Jason Clarke, Joel Edgerton, Chris Pratt, Edgar Ramirez and Mark Strong. The flick is due to hit theaters on December 19.

Jim Caviezel Joins “The Tomb”
“The Tomb” just gained another major player. Producer Mark Canton told The Matthew Aaron Show (via Collider) that Jim Caviezel has joined Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone in the film. Apparently Caviezel will play the warden at the prison that the action duo escape from, and will be the antagonist of the film.

In Casting Call, the MTV Movies team rounds up the day’s biggest casting news and offers it up to you on a silver platter. If you’re looking to see which movie your favorite actor has booked next, look no further. Tell us what you think in the comments section and on Twitter!

High school bullies are one thing. But high school bullies and slasher movie serial killers? It’s hard enough to survive high school as it is! Check out more in this exclusive clip from “Detention,” hitting theaters on April 13 from Samuel Goldwyn Films.

“Detention” is billed as a horror/comedy about a slasher movie serial killer that wreaks havoc on a group of students in their senior year of high school. Josh Hutcherson stars as Clapton Davis, an outspoken athlete with the hots for one of the more popular cheerleaders. But that all takes a backseat when it is discovered that students are being systematically killed off one by one by a mysterious masked madman.

To make matters worse, Clapton and a handful of students are given detention on prom night while all the other seniors are undoubtedly being stabbed to death on the dancefloor. Talk about sitting ducks!

From the looks of the above clip, “Detention” will be having a lot of fun playing with genre conventions. And judging from past experiences, horror movies with a sense of humor are always the best types of horror movies.

“Detention,” from Samuel Goldwyn Films, creeps its way into theaters on April 13th. For more information, you can visit the official “Detention” website.

MTV News spent hours interviewing artists and stars on the Grammy red carpet. After everyone was inside Los Angeles’ Staples Center, some of the news team made their way backstage while the rest made their way to their seats. Here are some observations that anyone watching from their couch would never have seen:

Pretty Please, More Pink: Inside Staples Center, they play highlights from past shows during commercial breaks. Pink’s performance of “Glitter in the Air” captivated the audience so much that when they cut back to the show, the entire crowd groaned.

Mother Monster’s Security Detail: Lady Gaga moved through the arena flanked by two bodyguards in order to make it safely to her seat in time for Recording Industry President Neil Portnoy’s speech. Gaga was also safer than the Beatle in the house. Sir Paul McCartney had no protection during his dual-performance night.

Get Up, Stand Up: The audience inside Staples Center seemed unsure of when to stand up and sit down all night. The minute Paul McCartney appeared onstage, all that uncertainty disappeared.

One Step Behind?: While Chris Brown’s footwork looked quite impressive on air, our source told us the vibe inside Staples was lukewarm after his physical performance.

Join the Band: Many audience members were given arm bands with a Coldplay logo on it and told to put them on during the band’s performance with Rihanna.

The Standing O You Missed: When Tony Bennett won a Grammy for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group for his duet with Amy Winehouse during the pre-televised ceremony, the crowd rose to its feet. “We shouldn’t be here. Our darling daughter should be here,” Winehouse’s father Mitch said after embracing Bennett.

On the Bubble: The night’s big winner, Adele, was chewing gum backstage after her triumphant performance of “Rolling in the Deep.” That applause you heard on TV was no joke. The crowd inside Staples was blown away.
